We have already covered how to create slideshows in iMovie as well as in Microsoft Photos, so be sure to look at those two posts if video is something you’re passionate about! Enjoy the read! If you notice Youtubers nowadays, green screen usage has become a norm and this feature is a holy grail found in this video editing software. We continue our video series with a tutorial on Shotcut, a free video editor that you can use to create great photo & video slideshows. I was even surprised it has this and it keys in the color like a charm, as it detects decently the edges and does very good blending of foreground and background. I must add that the feature of chroma key is a gem from this software. For instance, you can easily download LUTs that are free from third party sites, along with filters to spice up your video projects and use it here. And unlike what most people say about it, this one is a professional tool if you just maximize all its feature. So, the rewards are very satisfying because this software can process 4K videos. It's not the developer's fault that you're too lazy to learn it. You can't just dismiss a software and tag it as not user friendly just because you don't like how the interface looks. Ironically it is complex as you have to select certain dropdowns to get to what you want to achieve, but I won't tag it as a con as we need to learn the software before saying that it's good or bad. It's relatively simple, though looking at its interface if you're used to navigating video and even audio editors. Pros: I find Shotcut very useful although it takes a little while to learn it by heart as it is a bit complicated. It's a must for who is starting out and feels like the popular software is either too expensive or too overwhelming. Similar software requires an additional encoder when with Shotcut it's a simple 3-5 step process. I think that my favorite thing about Shotcut is how easy it is to create proxies for heavy videos. You have all the necessary information and buttons to work with and if and only if you want to go deeper you'll have to face the more complex functions of the software. Shotcut was what allowed me to start with its simple and minimalistic interface. Usually when you open video editing software you're met with so many buttons and so much information that it gets scary to even try. Before using more sophisticated software for video editing it was what helped me get familiar with a lot of concepts that were completely alien to me and it taught me how to use channels and separate audio from the video files and other useful things that looked too complicated to do in similar software. Shotcut is a very simple and easy to use video editor. Pros: If the fact that Shoctut is open source (free) isn't enough for you to use it allow me to go deeper. It is a powerful program that it is easy to use and it's open source means that there will be continual updates to it in the future. If you're looking for a good replacement for Windows Movie Maker or an affordable video editing program, I'd recommend Shotcut. Since I started using it years ago, I was able to get on and figure my way through the different options and capabilities, and have been using it ever since to edit videos for ministry purposes. It's been very easy integrating Shotcut into my business. When you need to export a video in a certain format, it has those format options available, and it has a low learning curve. It has a wide range of uses and file export options, which makes it very useful. As a open source program, you can't beat the price. I chose to use Shotcut first and foremost, because of the price. And after researching alternatives, like the paid services, like Adobe provides, I came to the realization of that Shotcut as an open source platform would do everything that I needed to do, without the sharp learning curve that is found in the other video editing programs. And I give Shotcut a four out of five stars.īefore using Shotcut, I was one of those people that used Windows Movie Maker and after Microsoft got rid of that, I was forced to find something else. Steven: I'm Steven, I'm a Pastor in the religious services industry.
